Out of the mouth of babes

We are very sad because we found out that Aunt Catherine's dog, Nikki, had diabetes and passed away yesterday.  Grandpa buried her next to Anni on their farm.

When we told the boys about it this morning it prompted a moving discussion about God and heaven.  I began the discussion by telling them we needed to pray for Aunt Catherine.  That she was very sad because her dog, Nikki, was very sick and died yesterday.  Nikki was Catherine's best friend.  :(

Logan began asking questions like where was Nikki now.  I explained that she was now with Anni and how Anni now had a friend.  He then asked if she was in heaven and I replied with "We would like to think so."  Then the discussion got difficult.  Logan said " Didn't Nikki have Jesus in her heart?  How do you explain to a 5 year old what a soul is.  I bumbled through and tried to explain a soul.  At this point he started crying and I couldn't do much more because I was driving.  I said that Anni was happy to have a friend and then Caden pointed out that there would be more than 2 dogs in heaven (Nikki and Anni) and Anni wasn't lonely.  Caden then asked that we pray for Aunt Catherine and we did.

WOW, teaching moments happen everyday.  Please pray that God would give me the words to say so that I lead my children to Him.
