I was first introduced to Beth Moore through a study I did last summer. A group of special ladies decided to read "So Long Insecurity" by Beth. Through this I found Beth's blog and grew to love her. So when I heard she was coming here, I got excited. So for weeks I had been hoping to attend her event. I sent a notice out to all my bible study friends asking who was going, then I learned how much it cost. I was deflated and discouraged. I wanted to go, but could not justify the cost. Well God had a plan...doesn't He always? I mentioned on FB that I wanted to go and a friend of a friend found a ticket for me. Hallelujah...FREE...can I get an Amen? Can you tell I went? Not only did I get to go to the event, today Beth walked right beside us to talk to the ladies in our section. I was even on the jumbotron...and I didn't even have good hair :)
So here are my notes from the event. It is my way of keeping a record or journal of the 2 days. I hope you get something out of it. Enjoy.
Deut 10:10b-11
the LORD listened to me at this time also. It was not his will to destroy you. "Go," the LORD said to me, "and lead the people on their way, so that they may enter and possess the land that I swore to their fathers to give them."
God brought us out(sin, defeat, depravity, destroyed) so that he might bring us into a place of victory with him
Goal: We should arrive at a place the is our symbolic promise land
- in my Land of Promise =Victory
- in my Land of Promise = I bear fruit and I have a sense of living in the spirit (John 15)
NOW WHAT?
Deut 10:20 Fear the LORD your God and serve him. Hold fast to him and take your oaths in his name.
Hold fast in the Greek is DABAQ (pronounced dahVAWK) which means stick to, cling to or hold onto to cleave to adhere especially firmly as if with glue, to be glued to, to be stuck together
You cannot hold fast with one arm. You are either all in and clinging to God or you are not.
Versus we see this phrases used:
Ruth 1:14 – Ruth clung to Naomi
Job 41: 15-17- joined fast to one another; they cling together and cannot be parted (scales on the Leviathan like those of a crocodile) Hold onto God where no air can pass between God and me
Genesis 2:24 – Man should cleave to his wife…become as one
Job 19:20 -My bones cleave to my skin and to my flesh, and I have escaped by the skin of my teeth. God is holding onto me for my eternal security. Unless I hold back, I have no earthly security.
Psalm 139:7-10
John 10:28
So God calls us to a life that WORKS (not a train wreck) He calls us to a life more abundant. We are the invitation to unbelievers. We have this life because...
H - His affection is set upon you
O - Only He is your praise
L - Loving Him awakens your true heart
D - Doing His will does us good
F - Fleeing to Him means fleeing with Him
A - Any tighter embrace will also replace
S - Satan wants what we have
T - The Lord is your life
A - Any tighter embrace will also replace
S - Satan wants what we have
T - The Lord is your life
H - His affection is set upon you
Why does God set his love upon us?
Det 7:6-8 – The Lord has chosen you,
you are a treasured possession,
there was nothing special about you, meaning God did not choose me because I did something unique
1 Peter 2:9-10- a chosen people,
royal priesthood,
a person belonging to God,
called out of darkness into wonderful light,
People of God
Eph 1:3-7 - . He chose me before the beginning of time.
There are 3 ways that God loves us:
Hasaq - emphasis on emotion, a tethered love, cleaving, adhereing to, bind, love bound to attach, glued to
Isaiah 38:17-Surely it was for my benefit that I suffered such anguish. In your love you kept me from the pit of destruction; you have put all my sins behind your back.
you have put my sins behind my back
You have loved my soul out of the pit
God’s love makes me valuable, it makes me a treasured possession
"Satan uses our trash to take away our treasure. You are NOT trash. You are God's Treasure"
Det 7:7 The LORD did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples.
God’s love is not based on me
Isaiah 53:2 He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.
There is no way to rationalize our love for God or God’s love for us.
Ahaba -love, delight, love of parent for a child
Det 7:8 - But it was because the LORD loved you and kept the oath he swore to your forefathers that he brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
Det 7:9 - Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands.
Come back tomorrow for Part 2
