Are you there?

My mom and I took the boys to the pool this morning.  While I was in the baby pool with Mason, Logan decided he was going to go down the water slide.  He as done this before, but never without his daddy at the bottom of the slide.  I stood watching from the other pool, crossing my fingers that he would do it.  He sat up there way too long so I walked back over to the slide.  He was sitting there, terrified to go down.  He would get inside the chute of the slide then come back out.  It was pitiful to watch.

He asked me to get in the water and catch him at the bottom.  I stood there waiting for him to come down for probably 15 or 20 minutes.  Our conversation went a little like this...

Mom:  are you coming down Logan?
Logan:  are you under the bar (rope) to catch me?
Mom:  Yes, Logan.  I am here.  Just slide down.
Logan:  (Silence)
Mom:  Are you coming?  It is no different than jumping from the side of the pool.
Logan:  but I am scared, the water on the slide will make me go too fast
Mom:  don't think about it, just slide
Logan:  (more silence)
Logan:  are you there, mom?
Mom:  yes, Logan I am here.
Logan:  but you aren't under the rope
Mom:  I am right here Logan.
Logan: (more silence)
Mom:  if you do it, I will give you $5
Logan:  more crying....come up here and go with me
Mom:  I can't the life guards won't let me

and on and on.

Finally, he went 1/4 of the way down and then climbed back up the slide.  I demanded that he climb down and not attempt it again today.  Sobbing hysterically, he came down, stomped his feet and then yelled "I HATE YOU, MOMMY"

Many times we are like little children with God.  We constantly test him to see if he is there, but never trust Him when He answers.

Are you there God?
Right here daughter.
I can't see you.
You hear my voice, trust me.
But I want you to do it my way.
Child, your ways are not my ways.  They are not safe or what is best for you.  Trust Me.  Slide.  I will catch you.

Are you listening to God's voice?  Do you hear his reassuring voice?  Do you trust him to catch you?
