Friday was "Favorite Team Day" at school and Caden wanted to wear his Panther gear. He even convinced mommy to draw grease marks on his face like a real football player. Here he is the morning before his accident trying to look tough. I tried to take pictures of Logan, but he would not let me.
The school receptionist came and got me at 10 and said that Caden had fallen on the playground and cut his hand. I called the pediatrician on my way to the school office and they recommended we take him to urgent care. When I first saw Caden he was crying because they had cleaned around the cut. It appeared pretty deep to me, so I knew we would be heading to the doctor. The ladies in the office were great. They said he only cried when he saw blood. They wrapped his hand perfectly and he had stopped bleeding by the time we arrived at the doctors office.
His teacher explained that Caden had tripped over a classmate's feet and landed on a sharp rock. Caden said that he was pushed in the forest and fell on a rock. Either way, that rock was viscous. He was very upset that he would miss recess and the Homecoming soccer game Friday evening.
The urgent care office is 5 minutes from the school and there was no one waiting when we arrived. After taking us back and checking his vitals, they soaked Caden's hand in a cleaning solution for 10 minutes. He was not happy, but tolerated the bubble bath for his hand. While he was laying there, he looked at me so serious.
He said, Mommy, i was bad at school today. I punched.
Me: Who did you hit Caden?
Caden: E-
Me: Why did you hit E?
Caden: He was the bad guy.
Me: Where did you hit him?
Caden: In the back...
Me: Ugh!
The doctor came in and confirmed that Caden would need stitches. He knelt down on Caden's level and explained the entire process. I was impressed with his bedside manner with kids. It took 4 of us to hold Caden when they gave him the shots to numb the area. After 2 stitches they were all done. They wrapped him up and said to change the bandage daily. Caden wanted the dressing to look like a cast, so they did their best.
I changed the dressing yesterday and this was how it looked. I am disappointed that they did not give him a few more stitches as the cut is quite long. I am not a doctor, I just play one on TV :-P
After the "incident" we went to Target and Caden picked out a new car for his bravery. He watched movies most of the afternoon and was ready to join the homecoming festivities by 4:00. Though he was not able to jump on the inflatables, he spent plenty of time at the cake walk and throwing baseballs at the dunking tank. I am not an expert, but his form looked pretty good. After stuffing himself with cotton candy and cookies, he went home a happy boy.
We have survived our first injury resulting in an urgent care visit. Thankfully it was not worse and I was on the school campus when it happened.

Please tell Caden that pushing from the back is a penalty for the Panthers (and all other teams).
