Hunger Strike

Mason has gone on a hunger strike.  If we do not give him fries or crackers or cookies, he refuses to eat.  Since none of these are healthy alternatives, we are not giving in.  We have sat down and formed a plan.  Breakfast of baby food pears at 8 AM, lunch of baby food lentils at 12 PM.  Whatever isn't eaten in the morning will be served at dinner.  If he eats breakfast and lunch he will receive fries and ice cream for dinner. He is more than welcome to eat any meal that the family is eating in addition to the above.  We will not talk to him during a meal.  He has 30 minutes to eat.  If he doesn't eat or finish, then he doesn't get anything but water or milk until the next meal.  We are not starving our child.  We are giving him the foods he has chosen to eat.  We are giving him the control to eat it within healthy and constructive boundaries.  We are sending a clear message and a consistent feeding schedule.  He will know what to expect every day and hopefully we start eating again.  Our only caveat...preschool.  We are not sure what to do there.  Have I mentioned how whiny and cranky and unbearable a hungry child can be.

Finally, Monday evening the pastors, elders and deacons of our church will anoint Mason and lay hands on him.  This is happening at 6:30 pm.  Please set aside some time to pray with them.  Our prayer for Mason is whether he eats or drinks, or whatever he does, may he do it all to the glory of God (Ephesians 5:15).

Mary, I'm so sorry. I haven't kept up with your life but it sounds very stressful. Praying for you and the family.
