Making Memories

One of the better memories of my childhood was living next to Liz Tongue and her family. They did things we never did, like camping. Can you imagine, my mom, my granny and myself "roughing it". Our idea of tough times was when the power went out or when Hardees or JMarrs restaurants were closed.

One of my most fond memories was the night before we went back to school (usually Labor Day). The Tongues would light a camp fire and we would sit around it and sing songs. Lame, yes, but a fond memory all the same.

I would love for my kids to have certain memories of things we did as a family. One of them is movie night. If you follow my Facebook status (yes, I over communicate), you will see that we have movie nights every weekend. The boys looks forward to this. Logan says Friday is the best day of the week because for breakfast he gets to eat Daddy's cereal (Lucky Charms) and then we have movie night (usually with pizza, popcorn and skittles).

Another memory I hope to create is the back to school night. The boys have begged us all summer to camp out. They are still a little young for this type of thing and we don't have a basement like the George's to camp in. To create a little of that magic, we used a "Disposable Barbie" to grill hot dogs, marshmallows and make smores.

For me it was really a wonderful evening. The kids played outside, while the adults watched the fire. Everyone ate themselves sick and we didn't have to say "stop, quit, don't do that", at all. There were a few words of caution when someone got too close to the fire, Mason in particular. Hopefully this is the first of many evenings to come. If so, we may even invest in a fire pit, for such evenings.

Grace and Peace,
Mary
