Tuesday: The Good, The Bad, and the downright UGLY!

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly of Tuesday

Just a quick update of Team Kerstiens.  We are all doing pretty well.  Mason has recovered from the stomach bug.  David is working normal hours again.  Logan and Caden are thriving in school and Mary is crazy as usual :)

The Good of yesterday was that David was able to fix the leak on the hot water heater (GO DAVID, GO DAVID!)  I am truly blessed with a handy husband.  In addition, he took Logan to school so I was able to run on the treadmill for the first time in a long while.  Mommy needs some stress relief and this is a wonderful outlet.

The BAD…I had another allergic reaction to something…we think it is a bush that I rub up against when I park my car at work.  After a rushed trip to the allergist and over an hour wait on the prescription, I decided not to take the meds unless I am really desperate.  I HATE steroids.  Hopefully I can conquer this on my own. :(

The UGLY…(10:00-11:00 occupation therapy appt…pick up pizza for David…11:00-12:00 mad dash across town for dr. appt, make arrangements for pickup for Logan, call David to pickup Caden, 12:00-1:00:  2nd dr. appt of the day, unsuccessful. 1:00- pick up Logan, 2:00 – 2:30 work phone call, 3:00 - 4:00 Mary’s Dr. appt.  4:00-5:00 finally get RX filled only to remember that I have bible study…which I didn’t complete,  at 7:00…10 PM finally home   x-(

We have been having some issues with Mason since he got sick last week.  He has been uncharacteristically grumpy for the last week.  He has no patience (yes, I know he is 2) or tolerance for anything.  He even acted out at school on Monday and hit his teachers.  In addition he had a TOTAL MELTDOWN yesterday in the car.  Screaming OW! OW! OW!  I thought we were going to end up in the emergency room, it was that desperate of a cry.

We had already discussed his behavior with his occupation therapist (OT) earlier in the day.  She agreed that something was going on and a trip to the pediatrician was in order.  So…I made the mad dash from one end of Charlotte to Matthews to make an appt with the pediatrician.  Of course the couldn’t find anything wrong with him, but gave him some reflux meds to try.

The OT also thought that Mason is become over stimulated at preschool.  The noise of the kids and the music is causing him distress…hence the lashing out at teachers.  She (OT) recommended some things for the teachers, like having him clean the tables, or carry heavy books across the room or sit quietly in a corner with his blanket.  This will help him be less overwhelmed.  Have you every been in a class room with 15+ 2 year olds.  It would overwhelm even the most level headed kid.  The teachers put these suggestions into practice today and he had a much better day.  They also could see him melting down and were able to stop the situations before they escalated…Yeah Miss Allison and Miss Jessica!!!  He fell asleep the minute he got in the car and slept like a log for several hours.

All for now…kids are screaming for dinner….someone has a poopy diaper, Logan has made a mess in the kitchen and I am living for 7 PM.
