Hello friends and family,
It has been a while since I posted more than pictures. A lot has been going on in the Kerstiens' household, some of it really good and some of it really bad.
Our drama started with problems with our Tahoe. We took it to the dealership and they stated their our engine was having problems. The solution was to repair or replace the engine, both of which were pretty expensive options. Our Tahoe only has 100K miles. We heard people say “that engine is bullet-proof”, well it wasn’t for us. We shopped around and thanks to a friend, found a mechanic near our home, to replace the engine. Ten days and 6K later we hoped it is fixed. The mechanic stated he believed it was a manufacturers defect. We called the dealership, then GM, but because the dealership did not do the repairs, we are out of luck. We have since contacted GM again and the General Manager of the dealership, but haven’t heard anything yet. Please keep us in your prayers as this is a stressful issue. Not to mention there are still other repairs not related to the engine that need to be completed, that at this time we cannot afford. God answers prayer in his own timing.
After picking up the newly repaired Tahoe we went to return the rental car. While we were sitting there discussing the loud fan belt, the rental car rep backed into the Tahoe. Luckily, all the damage was done to the rental and not us. Scary though it was, God was watching out for us.
When we got home from the above drama, I was making popcorn for movie night, forgot it was on the stove and it caught fire. Thank God for the 12 year old fire extinguisher. Yes, it was a bad day. Minimal damage once again, but I was really scared to touch anything for the rest of the weekend.
After cleaning my cooktop the following Saturday, I opened a cabinet and a cup dropped on the cook top and cracked it. So now it is fire scorched and cracked…David said if I wanted a kitchen renovation, I could have just asked :) That will teach me to clean something.
David's work situation still sucks....God answers prayers in his timing.
Finally, all the kids have a cold. Logan and Mason have pink eye. Today Logan tried to pull Mason onto the deck in the wagon. Mason flipped backwards and cracked his head on the flagstone at the bottom of the steps. We are watching him for a concussion, but so far he seems fine. Thankfully he has a really hard head!
So that is all the bad stuff…now for the praises. Yes, I am going to have to stretch for some of these, but I have a bad attitude tonight and need to remember that God has a plan, he is in control and he answers prayers in his own timing.
Good things #1:
I am in a group at my church called Merea. The more seasoned ladies of the church mentor the younger women on an array of topics. February's topic interior design and my living room was chosen as the “example” aka: the one that needed the most help. So….one of the ladies, an interior designer, redid our living room for free. She took things we already had and made it look awesome. I will post pictures when I don’t have toys everywhere. She also recommended several future changes and gave us a direction for the room. We are very thankful for her help and feel blessed to have a redesigned room for FREE!!!
Good things #2:
Mason is making progress in his Occupational Therapy (OT). He even ate cheese on crackers today during his session. Though he whined the entire time, this is a step in the right direction. As providence would have it, Mason needed 2 OT sessions a week and a spot opened up, just when we needed it. So they are changing his therapy from one OT and one ST to two OTs a week. Hopefully this more aggressive schedule will result in eating a larger variety of foods. We see progress, but it is a slow process. God answers prayers in his own timing.
Good things #3:
I am very thankful that we are not in the ER this evening. Mason’s fall was very scary and could have been much worse. We think his bottom hit the wagon and broke the fall a bit. We will wake him up a few time tonight, just in case.
Good things #4:
I am very thankful that 6 years ago this coming Sunday, God gave us a little boy named Logan after struggling for years with infertility. God answers prayer in his own timing.
Good things #5:
My awesome brother replaced two glass shelves for me. This made the redecorating a success!!!
Good things #6:
Caden is doing well in school and loving life as usual. He is 110% all the time. I wish I had his passion and zeal.
Good things #7:
We have had beautiful weather for the last week. It really lifts my soul when the sun shines.
Good things #8:
I was treated like a queen at the CDS fairy tale ball last week. It was an awesome way to spend time with Logan and see all the wonderful things he is learning. He is really growing up fast.
As for my 2011 questions, there is still a lot of work to be done:
1. Will God show up for David concerning his job? Not yet
2. Will I continue to make God a priority? Not yet
3. Will I workout more and eat healthier in 2011? Not yet
4. Will we make reading a priority and turn off the TV and put down my laptop? Not Yet
5. Will I give up Diet Coke? Not likely
Love ya, mean it!
