The Goal was 25

Logan ran in the Fun Run at school several weeks ago.  It is a fundraiser benefited the Arts and Athletic departments.  He was really excited about the event, but also apprehensive because 25-35 laps seemed impossible.

The big day came and I went in to wake him up.  I climbed in bed with him to snuggle a moment because neither he nor I were ready to get up.  He said "Mommy, what if I can't run 25 laps, which was his goal."  I explained that he could walk, jog, or run and to try his best.  We then prayed about it and he seemed less nervous.

I drove him to school and walked him into class.  He was still commenting that he didn't think he could do it.  Again, I told him to do his best.  Since, I did not have anywhere to be...for once... I decided to stay and help the teachers in any way I could.  After making sure everyone had their Fun Run t-shirts and visited the rest room, we were ready to run.

The atmosphere in the gym was like the super bowl.  The kids ran in through a tunnel with music playing and the announcer cheering them on.  It was awesome! Here is a picture of him running in.  He was line leader that week, so he came in first!!!

After the girls ran their laps, it was time for the BOYS!!!    I stood on the side lines cheering Logan on with each lap.  He would run by and give me five.

After each lap, the teachers would mark off the lap on the back of their shirts.  Logan came around with a  big smile on his face...he was on lap 24.  The run did a lot for his self confidence.

Finally, when it was all over, Logan had run 37 laps...12 more his goal.  We were so proud of him and he was beaming.   I always remember the verse I learned in AWANAs when I was 9 years old.

I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:14
The goal:  25 laps
The prize:  boost in self confidence
The call:  do your best for God's glory

One of the things I love about CDS are the middle school buddies assigned to the "K's".  They were along the side lines supporting the kids.  Logan's buddy, Will, had made a sign for him and gave him candy at the end.  The sign is hanging in Logan's room.

Thanks to all the family and friends who supported Logan and CDS.   Also thanks to Kelly T. for the pictures.  She did a great job.
