Now that summer is here I am trying to visit one Charlotte attraction per week. I had a groupon for the Reptile Zoo in Monroe, so that was our adventure last week. Let me first say that I am NOT a reptile fan. Snakes have their place and purpose, but not within a mile of me.
The boys have been watching a new Lego series called Ninjago. The bad guys are various types of snakes. The boys have been discussing them in detail from the Lego point of view. I want them to understand the reality of snakes and that they are to be view from a safe distance...preferably behind 1" thick glass.
Back to the our outing. The zoo is in an old house off of 74. It is 3 small rooms of numerous snakes, frogs, lizards and spiders. We were a little alarmed to see taranculas held in boxes on the wall by velcro, but otherwise it seemed safe. The caretaker seemed very knowledge about the "animals" and truly loved them...which was a little creepy. I felt something land on my hand in the first room, girl running and screaming was a good description of my reaction. My cold blooded encounter turned out to be a fly. Did I mention I hate creepy things?
Caden did not enjoy the zoo. He has now realized that he is afraid of snakes. He did touch a lizard, but wasn't thrilled.
The highlight of our trip was the used book store in the same strip mall. Logan and Caden both chose a book. Logan has read his entire book (Magic Tree House Series). It is the first chapter book he has completed on his own!
I am thankful for the Groupon we had to visit the zoo, but I am not sure we will visit again. The boys are not impressed with they type of God's creatures. Stay tuned for more adventures from the Kerstiens Crazy Corner.
