Updates!

Happy Summer!

We are all out of school for the summer.  The boys took a week off to relax and are attending various summer camps at their school.  It is a great balance of fun and rest.

We took Mason for a checkup at Alabama's Children's Hospital last week.  They are thrilled with is weight gain and said he is growing!  If he continues to progress, he will be admitted to their eight-week intensive feeding program early next year.

With that in our future, there are a lot of things that must happen before next year, a lot of which are expensive and out of pocket.

1. Mason needs better coping skills that are obtained through behavioral therapy.  We are trying to find a good program that is covered by our insurance.  We have had a lot of suggestions and we are checking into each of them.  Thanks to everyone who has forwarded us names.

2.  We need to revisit anxiety medication.  He is very irritable and easily angered.  Finding the right "cocktail" that works for Mason has been very difficult.

3.  He is currently seeing an education therapist for learning issues in school.  That is critical to success in the school years to come.  We will need to apply for a grant to cover the expense.

4.  We have to make arrangements to live in Alabama for 8 weeks.  Mary is a part-time employee and does not qualify for FMLA.

5.   We have applied for financial aid for those expenses that are not covered by our insurance.  We will meet our out of pocket maximum for speech, occupational and physical therapies within several weeks of admittance.  This does not include living expenses for 8 weeks or loss of income for Mary.

Prayer requests:

Praises:

  • Mason is growing and gaining weight.
  • We found a program that knows what is wrong with our son and has a plan to help him.

Prayer requests:

  • Finding the right team of therapists and doctors in Charlotte to support the ACH doctors.
  • Finances
  • Mason...he will learn to eat at least one or two items from each food group.  He will respond well to the many appointments and therapies he will have to attend.  Finally, he will see that God has a plan as hard as it may seem in the short run.

I will be praying that you can get the finances you need through a grant. It must seem overwhelming. I'm so glad Mason has gained a little weight.
