Our year in review according to Facebook

January
“Thanks for the birthday wishes. I had a wonderful day doing nothing!”  That is right Mary turned 40 this year.  David treated her to a week in Hilton Head to celebrate.  A special thanks to Grammy and Aunt Veronika for making it happen.

February
Logan celebrated his 8th birthday with a dinner of crab legs and cookie cake.  He saved all his birthday money and purchased an iTouch.  We were very proud of him. David celebrated 16 years at the bank.

March
“Tonight's feature...a blast from the past...Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. They have corded telephones! HA! HA! HA!” Every Friday our family has a movie night.  We gather around a movie with popcorn, candy and sodas.  This has become our family tradition and the boys look forward to it every week.

April
“Day in the life...of Mason: 1) Use sunscreen stick to decorate door frames, toilet seats, scales, and anything else w/in eye view 2) grind Oreos into the floor 3) pour water on toy air craft carrier and drag it around the house 4) use a soaked dusting cloth to clean mommy's closet...We miss nap time.”

April was a busy month for the Kerstiens.  We went to the beach for spring break, Mary found out she was gluten intolerant, and David and Mary celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary.

May
“Food, family and fire....sounds like an awesome Memorial Day to me! “  We work very hard to create memories for our boys.  This year we celebrated by eating hot dogs and s’mores cooked over our fire pit.

June
There are no words to describe how tired I am this evening. VBS, Dr. Appts, swimming, birthday parties, more swimming...and those are just the highlights of my day.”  June was a very busy month.  Mason turned 5 and Caden turned 7.  We filled our days with swimming, VBS, and summer camps.

July
“What a beautiful morning to sit outside and read a book. Mason is mowing the grass and yelling "hey" to people as they walk by...another extrovert in the making. It is hard to believe that David and I are both introverts when you see Caden and Mason.”

We had a very mild and rainy summer in NC.  We were very thankful for a break for our normal hazy, hot and humid summer.

David celebrated his birthday with a quiet family dinner and a cake made by Mary and the boys.

August
"Every morning this is how I find the boys....playing Minecraft...together. #makingmemories."

In August Mason started his first year of school.  He is in Transitional Kindergarten (Pre-K).  Logan is in 2nd grade and Caden in 1st.  Mary also started a new job as the Lower School computer teacher.  She teaches 3rd-5th graders and loves her new job.  On another note, we found out that Mary’s sister in law, Veronika, has cancer.  Please keep her in your prayers as she has a long road ahead of her.

September
“We always enjoy celebrating fall at the pumpkin patch.”

We hit the pumpkin patch early this year. Mason and Caden were playing soccer, so most of our Saturdays were spent on the soccer field.  Caden did very well and learned a lot this season.  Mason had more fun socializing than learning the game.  Logan is learning to swim in a stroke class to prepare for swim team.  He loves the water.

October
October was crazy with field trips, fall parties, Halloween, soccer, swim lessons, school, work, etc. There wasn't much time for pictures or Facebook posts.

November
"A dusting of snow and 27°…what happened to fall?"

Grammy celebrated her birthday with a steak dinner and shopping with her daughters at the Christmas show.

To celebrate turning 40, Mary and 3 of her closest friends headed to Punta Cana for 5 days. This was Mary’s 1st time out of the country.  She had a wonderful time.  Also in November the Rainbow Loom entered our home.  It is a great activity for the boys and a break from the Minecraft craziness.  We had another full month and topped it off by spending Thanksgiving with David’s family in SC.  It is great for the cousins to get together and play.  We wished we lived closer.

December
"There are simple moments in life where I try to take mental pictures. Tonight my boys are sitting quietly, watching a movie, and making bracelets. Before long they will be hiding in their rooms, texting their friends, and ignoring me...so tonight I cherish these simple moments of togetherness."

Work was madness for David this year.  He was finally able to take some time off for Christmas and New Years.  We had a wonderful Christmas and enjoyed spending time with both families.  We were especially blessed to have Veronika join us.  She wasn't supposed to be here.

So this wraps up our year, we have had a busy but great year.  We know that we have a lot to be thankful for and look forward to 2014.

David, Mary, Logan, Caden, Mason and Grammy
