Logan's 9th birthday

Sorry for our delay in posting updates.  It is a bit of a crazy time in the K household.  We are trying something new this year for our boys birthdays.  Instead of gifts we are providing "experiences".  We are hoping that while the toys break and get lost, the memories of the experience they had will last forever.

For Logan's birthday experience we took a trip to the LegoKidsFest.  Since Legos are a high priority in our house, this was a great choice.  Logan's birthday was on Thursday.  We had our traditional family dinner. He requested crab legs, broccoli and yellow cake with chocolate icing (a family fav).

Our family is very generous and he received lots of wonderful gifts.  Here are some great pictures of his reactions to his gifts.

Caden, nice photo bomb.

He asked for money, legos, a bible with cover, Diary of the Wimpy Kid book and a black rolling backpack.
We gave him a post card with the LegoKidsFest information.  He seemed skeptical, but he was a good sport.

On Friday, we picked them up from school early.  We swung through McDonalds and then we were off.  We had several things in mind when picking out hotel for the evening.  1.  heated pool,  2.  queen sized beds, 3.  Free breakfast and 4.  Close to restaurants for dinner.  We stayed at the Hampton Inn and Suites and had a fabulous experience.  They even brought in a roll away bed, so everyone slept comfortably.

One of the highlights of the trip was the heated pool.  The boys love to swim and the pool was awesome.

After their fun in the pool, we went to dinner which was meh...not worth discussing.  The mall had a Lego store which the boys enjoyed researching their favorite sets.

The next morning we were up bright and early for the Lego fest.  We packed up, ate breakfast and then we were off on our next adventure. If you have never been to this event, you are missing out.  Think wall to wall Legos.  The kids had a blast and were sad to leave.  Their favorite thing was the Lego pit.  Think gym floor covered in Legos about 6 inches deep.  The boys built a city.  Every time someone left, they would grab their left over towers.  By the end their city was quite impressive.  Another hit was the Lego robotics and Technics. Finally, the life size Lego statues were amazing.

The finished city

We had a wonderful time and Logan said "Mommy, this was better than presents." So I think our first "Experience" birthday gift was a success.
